Barrianne's Hiking Page: New York City Area Trails

Believe it or not, there are many MANY places to hike and great views just waiting for you within an hour of the city by public transportation or car. The Hudson River provides New York City residents with some great opportunities. Visit the links below to learn more.
On the east side of the Hudson is Breakneck Ridge, Beacon Mt. and Mt. Taurus, among other trails, near Cold Spring and the Peekskill Ridge. On the West Side of the Hudson is the Long Path, a trail that lead from the George Washington Bridge to past the Catskills. Some good destinations along the Long Path include the Palisades right over the bridge, the Giant Steps near the state line near Alpine, NJ (6 miles north of the George Washington Bridge) and Nyack/ Hook Mountain.
And don´t forget Bear Mountain, north of Nyack, with its dozens of trails, as well as Harriman State Park.
